Immaculée Conception Parish / Acadieville

Established in 1871
First church in 1871
First priest: 1897

The history of Acadieville is closely related to that of Rogersville. The first settlers (around 1871) were mostly construction workers for the Intercolonial Railway. These first pioneers had obtained government land grants from Mr. Urbain Johnson, Deputy for Kent County.

A second group of settlers, originally from Pointe-Sapin, Richibuctou Village, Saint Charles and Cocagne also came to Acadieville.

In the early days of the colony, the religious parish was served by priests from Rogersville. A first chapel was built in 1871 and later transported to the current site in 1887.

The church was no longer adequate and was replaced by a bigger building in 1895. The church’s interior was finished between 1904 and 1913.

A rectory was built in the late 1950s.

The last major renovations were undertaken between 1960 and 1968.
