Sainte-Thérèse-d'Avila Parish / Cap-Pelé

Established around 1800
First church : 1848
First priest : 1856

The Cap-Pelé church was built between 1845 and 1848; it was used for worship until 1965. It became too small for the population and the actual church building was
built on the north side of rue Acadie.

The Sainte-Thérèse d’Avila community was always involved in educational, sports activities and civic responsabilities. The Scout movement exists since 1957. The Knights of Columbus, the Legion of Mary and the Société Saint-Vincent-de-Paul have been very active over the years. The Club d’Âge d’Or of Cap-Pelé and the Centre Saint-André-LeBlanc exist since 1979.

The communities of Saint-Thérèse and Saint-Timothé of Shemogue, along with the Centre Saint- André-LeBlanc and the Knights of Columbus organize projects to help children in need during the year. Presently, it is the Comité Entraide which oversees these projects. The Cap-Pelé region was colonized between 1800 and 1825 by Acadian settlers; Brun, LeBlanc and Doiron families coming from Fox Creek (Saint Anselme).
